How to start a organic tomato garden

step 1 - choose a location in your garden

recommended location:

  • at least 5 hours of sun everyday
  • at least 4 x 4 feet area
  • use a large container over 12 inch diameter
step 2 - prepare garden soil

  • use 2 or 3 bags (1 bag is 2 cubic foot) of organic planting soil in 4x4 area
  • mix with organic vegetable food, about one pound
  • if available, use wormcasting soil
  • for container use potting soil
step 3 - choose organic tomato plant in local nursery

  • use 4 to 6 plants in 4x4 area
  • for 12 inch pot, use 1 plant

step 4 - cultivate

  • cultivate depth about 6 to 10 inches by cultivator
  • if no cultivator, use a shovel

step 5 - cover with weed preventer

  • use weedblock fabric usually about $10
